Elected Positions in the SIG Leadership

Term: Two yearsTime Commitment: Varies based on the time of year and the number of additional volunteers signed up to help you achieve all these goals.
As a Society-level SIG manager, you are responsible to SIG members, the Society office, and the STC board of directors. As a SIG manager, you are responsible for fostering the following activities:
- responding to members' needs, offering them opportunities to volunteer, network, and gain leadership experience
- planning a successful program of activities that promote professional development
- keeping members informed of SIG activities
- publishing a newsletter
- maintaining a Web site that contains SIG information
- providing an online forum and discussion group
- communicating with chapter-level SIGs and serving as a resource for them
- communicating with STC officials and committees
- submitting status reports to the Society
- reviewing your SIG's mission statement annually and setting goals for the year
- facilitating or providing for discussions for the following activities at the annual STC conference: the SIG networking luncheon, the annual SIG business meeting, and the progression session
- submitting a budget proposal and conducting SIG activities within the approved budget.
Treasurer
Term: One yearTime Commitment: a few hours per month
As treasurer, you are responsible for the following activities:
- managing the SIG budget
- coordinating with the Society office regarding financial matters
- tracking expenditures
- completing additional treasurer duties as assigned by the SIG co-managers.
Secretary
Term: One yearTime Commitment: several hours per month
As secretary, you are responsible for the following activities:
- taking minutes at the quarterly membership meetings and at the monthly volunteer meetings
- posting these minutes to the Web
- completing additional secretarial duties if necessary as assigned by the SIG co-managers
Membership Manager
Term: One yearTime Commitment: a few hours per month
As membership manager, you are responsible for the following activities:
- downloading the monthly membership report from stc.org
- sending by e-mail a welcome letter to new or reinstated members
- updating the announcement e-mail list subscription list, which sends e-mail to every member of the SIG.
- administering the e-mail discussion list, which sends e-mail discussions to every member who subscribes. The membership manager works with members and with the software to ensure that a subscribed member receives the e-mails properly.
- announcing upcoming volunteer meetings
- completing additional membership duties as necessary as assigned by the SIG co-managers
