STC Conference Activities

The Technical Editing SIG is active at every STC annual conference(external link) — and this year's conference in Rosemont, Illinois (greater Chicago area) is no exception. We hope you'll be able to join us on May 20-23. We'll be leading, or participating in, these conference activities (all time shown are Central Daylight Time).

Technical Editing SIG Activities

Saturday, May 19

  • 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM: Pre-conference Session, Technical Editing Fundamentals, Part 1
Linda Oestreich and Michelle Corbin will lead the first part of this course, which provides both an introduction for beginning technical editors as well as a refresher for experienced editors.

Sunday, May 20

  • 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM: Leadership Program, Part 1
SIG leaders will be attending this program, which includes a series of progressions. SIG co-manager Lori Meyer will be leading a progression about honoring, supporting, and sustaining volunteers.
  • 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM: Pre-conference Session, Technical Editing Fundamentals, Part 2

Monday May 21

  • 7:30 - 8:15 AM: SIG Leaders Breakfast
SIG leaders will gather to network and share ideas.
  • 6:30 - 8:00 PM: Communities Reception
Meet leaders and volunteers from the Technical Editing SIG and several other SIGs, as well as members of the Chicago chapter, STC's 2012 host chapter. If you'd like to help host our SIG table for 1/2 hour or more at the reception, contact SIG co-managers Carol Lamarche or Lori Meyer. And stick around after the reception for a great jam session hosted by the Chicago chapter!

Tuesday, May 22

  • 11:00 AM: SIG Business Meeting
All SIG members are invited to join us for our annual business meeting, where we'll review our accomplishments and discuss plans for the coming months. Feel free to bring a lunch; snacks and beverages will be provided. If you're a new Technical Editing SIG member, please join us so we can meet and welcome you.
  • 7:00 PM: Honors Reception and Banquet (ticketed event)
We'll be there to receive our Pacesetter Award for 2011. In addition, Lori Meyer will be among the 2012 Associate Fellows who will receive their honors.
