The amazing transformation of our SIG web site and the related services it provides come from Rick Sapir, our webmaster. Rick personally initiated and drove our new web presence, ensuring several new levels of services and benefits to the community. For example through Rick’s efforts, the SIG now provides a 24x7 live chat area, integrated polling and surveying (without the extra cost of WebMonkey or other tooling), areas for collaborative authoring (via wiki technology), RSS, and Twitter feeds. In addition to that, Rick personally took the lead to find Web 2.0 technologies, such as mashups and blenders, anticipating how those tools could build and improve our virtual community. Finally, Rick does not limit himself to just the “webmaster” role – he contributes to discussions about how to run the SIG and provide the best services with our limited volunteer resources.

Rick will receive a plaque in honor of his recognition. The citation on this plaque will read: “For your unfailing willingness to initiate and wholeheartedly support an innovative
and successful web transformation for the SIG.” Please join us in recognizing Rick Sapir for all of his past and continued contributions to the Technical Editing SIG. We would not be where we are today without his dedicated service.

Nominations for this award are due by November 30 of each year. The STC Board of Directors approves the Community Advocacy Committee’s recommendation during their winter board meeting.
