Upcoming Meeting
Our next membership meeting is:
Date: Friday, May 16, 2008
Time: Time: 12:00 noon to 1:00pm ET, 11:00am CT, 10:00am MT, 9:00am PT, 5:00pm GMT
In addition to some SIG news, we will have a technical program. Virginia Janzig will present “Changing Jobs/Changing Style Guides.” The focus of this talk will be on five ways to meet this challenge. When an editor changes jobs, one of the most challenging tasks is adapting to a new style guide. Although things such as basic grammar, spelling, and punctuation guidelines don’t change much, other guidelines, such as text emphasis, terminology, legal requirements, and others often change significantly.
See you at the Conference!
The Technical Editing SIG will also meet several times during the 55th Annual Technical Communication Summit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania June 1 - 4, 2008. Planned events include:
- Welcome reception on Sunday- we will have a TE SIG table set up for STC members to come learn about the SIG and what value our members get out of participating. Current TE SIG members are encouraged to stop by and say hello as well!
- TE SIG breakfast meeting on Tuesday morning - the SIG will supply breakfast and Pat Moell, co-manager, will lead a face-to-face business meeting, where we discuss upcoming SIG events and plans for next year. Of course there will be time for socializing and networking as well.
- TE SIG luncheon on Wednesday- this is a time where SIG members have lunch and socialize together, sharing their experiences and getting to know each other. You must purchase a ticket in advance to attend the lunch.
- TE SIG progression session, Tuesday at 9 am- we have pulled together a great set of presenters for this progression centered around technical editing. Stay tuned to your conference program for details.
